You’re not allowed to feel sexy.

Who said you had the right

To feel comfortable and confident

in your own flesh?

Don’t you remember,

you’re damaged goods?

Your value depleted

each time you offered it

to someone unworthy.

Your worth?

Well that was always finite,

didn’t you learn that in church?

They were supposed to break you,

shrink you,

make you conform.

Yet here you stand

naked,

fearless…

a smile on your face.

You’re not allowed to feel sexy,

because I don’t see you that way.

~

You no longer create me

I’ve taken my power back

Reality bends to my voice now

Not the echo of yours

I am sexy

Because I say so

Such a silly little word

So small

So diminishing

Of what I truly am

I am decadent

And delicious

I am savory

and delightful

It’s not my body

That makes me so

It is I

As I am

As I breathe

As I laugh

As I find freedom

where you said

it would never exist.

I am everything

I have always wanted to be

And none of it

Was for you

You no longer create me
